Coach with TCFIHA!

Coaches play a vital role in the development of our players—on and off the ice. At TriCities Female Ice Hockey Association, we're always looking for passionate, supportive individuals to help create a fun, inclusive, and empowering hockey experience.

Whether you're an experienced coach or just getting started, we provide the training and resources you need to succeed.

COACHING ROLES:

  • Head Coach: Leads practices and games while overseeing player development and team leadership.
  • Assistant Coach: Supports the Head Coach during practices, games, and bench management.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS - ALL COACHES

  • CRC - Criminal Record Check – Must be completed every 3 years
  • New! Shift Forward Online Course. *This new course will be replacing the RIS - Respect in Sport – Activity Leader
  • CATT - Concussion Awareness Training Tool – Online course
  • Coaching Courses - division specific (Coach 1, Coach 2, Development 1, Checking). Within Coach 1 and 2 are also age specific Modules that must be completed

COACHING COURSES BY DIVISION

All Head Coaches U11 and up are required to take either: HU – ONLINE Checking or Instructional Stream – Checking

U7 & U9 Coach 1 Register for Coach 1
U11C to U21C - House "C" Coach 2 Register for Coach 2
U13A to U18A - Competitive Rep "A" Development 1 Register for Development

NEW! WE ARE COACHES - Free coaching courses for girls and women provided by BC HOCKEY

The Coach 1 and Coach 2 courses are online, self-paced courses. Registration is open until October 1, 2026, or until all available spaces are filled. Course fees will be covered by BC Hockey and Hockey Canada, with participants receiving a full refund upon completion of the course.

*Minimum age requirement: 15 years old

Development 1

The Development 1 course will be offered through the Hockey Canada Summer Series, occurring in August at the Richmond Oval. As this is facilitated through a Hockey Canada event, we are able to offer it free of charge.

Part 1 is done online. Development 1 Part 2 is delivered in-person and will take place at the Richmond Oval on Friday, August 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and on Saturday, August 15, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Development 1 Part 1 is required to be completed prior to registering for Part 2.
