What is the minimum age to become an official?

What equipment is required to be an official?

CSA certified black helmet and CSA certified visor. No full cages or shields.
Hockey skates. No goalie or figure skates are permitted.
Hockey Officials jersey Linesman/linesperson (Not a jersey with permanent red armbands, however a jersey with removable RED armbands is ok) orange bands are NOT ok
Whistle - Acme Thunder is preferred. No plastic whistles or whistles on lanyards. Finger mounted whistles only.
Loose black pants. Can be referee pants, joggers or track pants but must be ALL black, no logos or stripes. No yoga pants or jeans.
A bag to carry your equipment.
Protective cup or jill.
Padlock or combination lock

The following equipment is recommended and if you are working a higher level of hockey above U13, it is mandatory.

Shin pads
Spare whistle
String to repair nets. Old skate laces cut up work well
Protective girdle and pants
Measuring tape
Note pad
Referees jersey (red arm bands) removable red arm bands are OK

All NEW Officials are required to complete the Hockey University ‘Officiating 1/2’ eLearning course in its entirety prior to registering for an HCOP certification clinic (in-person)

Returning Referees

>> Returning officials are required to complete the required certification for the current season before they are eligible to officiate.

>> If you are 18 years of age or older, a valid CRC is required prior to registering for the current season. CRC's are valid for 3 seasons.

PCAHA OFFICIALS ALLOWANCES

PCAHA Referee/Linesperson expense allowances are reviewed every three years. At the PCAHA AGM on May 29, 2022, the PCAHA membership approved increases to the expense allowance schedule in consideration of increased expenses incurred by officials, such as gas and equipment.

** When three on-ice officials are assigned to a game but fewer than the assigned number appear, those official(s) in attendance shall be paid the single referee expense allowance per the corresponding 2-Official System rate.
